BDC Partners with Barilla’s Global Nutrition & Wellbeing Group

We’re excited to announce that Barilla scientists are partnering with the Biodesign Challenge to create a new prize for BDC 2021.

The Barilla Prize for Regenerative Living Ecosystems will be awarded to the team whose project imagines how biodesign can reimagine a healthier and more sustainable food system that benefits the wellbeing of both people (physical, mental, emotional, social, and financial) and the planet (biodiversity, soil, water, waste, and air quality). The award is part of a commitment to education and an overall sponsorship for this coming year’s BDC competition.

As a special addition, Barilla’s Dondeena Bradley, PhD, Global Vice President for Nutrition and Wellbeing, will host an online seminar for BDC 2021 participants.

“The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals create a shared purpose between students and our scientists to uncover systemic solutions for a healthier, more sustainable food system—both for people and the planet. That is why we are thrilled to collaborate with Biodesign Challenge,” Bradley says.

This is the first year the Barilla Group is sponsoring BDC. Their sponsorship corresponds with the company’s “Good for You. Good for the Planet” mission to promote healthy lifestyles and a sustainable diet.

“We’re so glad to have Barilla join the BDC community,” says Daniel Grushkin, BDC’s Executive Director. “We cannot wait to see the innovative ideas that our students will bring to the conversation around the future of food and the environment.”|

BDC and the Barilla Group are committed to identifying ways to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year!

About the Prize
The Barilla Prize for Regenerative Living Ecosystems is awarded to the team whose project imagines how biodesign can reimagine a healthier and more sustainable food system that benefits the wellbeing of both people (physical, mental, emotional, social, and, financial) and the planet (biodiversity, soil, water, waste, and air quality). Teams should consider how the project fits into and/or improves each element within the food system, which includes how to grow, make, and sell food, as well as nurture and impact people. The emphasis should be on how changing these systems can improve our ability to care for one other and capacity to thrive.
